The Lowest-Rated Games of This Year, Based on Metacritic

Everywhere you look, fans are eagerly sharing their selections of the greatest titles of 2025. However, what of the disasters, the failures? It's time to take a few moments to recognize the most panned games of the year, according to the aggregate scores from Metacritic. Could each of these games truly as terrible as the ratings suggest? Here is the list.

10. Welcome Tour for Switch 2

Metascore: 54/100, Audience Score: 3.4/10

Initial reactions to this pack-in experience were heavily influenced by its $9.99 price tag, with many feeling cheesed off it wasn't a complimentary title like some other console launches. Critical opinion was quite mixed, from scathing critiques to slightly kinder takes that highlighted the delightful software underneath the controversy. In spite of the controversy, the title proved to be a strong seller during its launch month.

9. Rennsport

Metascore: 53/100, Audience Score: 3.2/10

Presented as "not just a racing game," this driving sim from Competition Company and Teyon received pretty unanimous reviews. Critics noted that the game fell short in nearly every way, notably in a year featuring high-quality racing experiences. Ultimately, this underwhelming entry was best left unplayed.

8. The Purrfect Bubsy Collection

Metascore: 53/100, Audience Score: 8.6/10

To begin with: the awkward punctuation is a notable strike against it. This compilation of 1990s-era platforming games revives a rude feline known for incessant quips. Critics observed that these games haven't aged well to begin with and feel dated with age. The notably positive user score remains a peculiar contrast to the professional reviews.

7. Hunter x Hunter Fighting Game

Aggregate Score: 53, User Score: 3.5

This anime-inspired brawler encountered widespread disappointment from both critics and fans. It was lambasted for a small character selection and a minimal offering of gameplay modes. User reviews was especially vitriolic, with some stating a hope that the title's poor performance would be a warning for similar releases.

6. Neptunia Riders Vs Dogoos

Metascore: 51, User Score: 5.3

Based on the niche Hyperdimension Neptunia series, this motorcycle action game tasks players with rounding up Dogoos. Critics argued that its effort to mimic a unique feel was unsuccessful, coming across as more of a low-effort product than a substantial Neptunia game. Its short length combined with a full retail cost was criticized.

5. Captain Blood

Metascore: 50, Audience Score: 5.3

This title is a resurrected relic from the mid-2000s, finally released after a very long time in legal limbo. The team behind it opted to release the game as an original product of its time, accepting that modern gamers might not appreciate its dated design. As such, many reviews concluded that the tale of its journey was more interesting than the actual gameplay.

4. Scar-Lead

Aggregate Score: 44, Audience Score: 2.4

This anime-styled action game modeled after games like *Returnal* failed to impress with critics. Common complaints were repetitive adversaries, monotonous stage design, and a snoozy narrative. A controversial mechanic involving the protagonist's clothing was universally disliked and took away from the game's enjoyment.

3. Paramedic Simulator

Metascore: 44, Audience Score: 4.9

Recall the strategic surgery games of the past, then take out the satisfying gameplay. That, according to reviews, is pretty much *Ambulance Life*. Critics found the emergency response sections to be monotonous, and the treatment of serious themes was criticized as being tone-deaf. The overall experience was deemed largely unsatisfying.

2. Tamagotchi Plaza

Metascore: 43, Audience Score: 5.8

This new direction for the classic virtual pet formula transforms the franchise into a minigame collection title. The result, per critics, was a vapid assortment of repetitive tasks that quickly became boring. Some reviews went so far as to label it one of the worst titles available on its platform, pointing to a profound lack of depth.

1. MindsEye

Metascore: 37, User Score: 2.5

Arriving as a high-profile crime saga from a studio led by industry veterans, *MindsEye* was a notable critical flop. Reviews savaged its poor shooting mechanics, dull missions, and a host of technical problems. Several found it to be a significant step back compared to previous-generation games in the action genre. Among the sea of negativity, a tiny number of positive user reviews found value in the experience, serving as a rare counterpoint.
